ICEFIELDS: WINTER IN THE ROCKIES

I’ve always wondered what winter in the Rockies might be like. Big frozen lakes, dry fluffy snow, waterfalls made of sculpted ice. The air cold and crisp and the sky an endless clear crystal blue. 

This year we finally got to find out — invited out to model for a national marketing campaign, we drove out to Banff and found a white wintery world biting at our lungs. We stayed a couple nights at the wonderfully rustic Storm Mountain Lodge, then hit the road north up the Icefields Parkway to Jasper. 

I’ve always been more partial to the warmer months when you sleep outside under the stars and live to tell the tale, but I gotta say the mountains were stunning and even more beautifully desolate when covered in snow and ice. The air was so clear you could see for miles, and sometimes it was so cold the air was actually literally sparkling with suspended ice crystals. It was a wonderful and magical experience.
